Can Port Rowan become the Birdhouse Capitol?
As a community based initiative that started in February, community members of Port Rowan are hoping to further grow the community as a tourist destination for birders and also the birds.
With Bird Studies Canada and Long Point being a popular spot for birds during migration, making Port Rowan the Birdhouse Capitol only makes sense.
If you are a business, community member or a tourist to the area, they need your help!
As a business or community member, you can decorate a birdhouse in order to promote your business or something that would look nice in the community.
If you are a tourist to Port Rowan, please tour the town to see the creativity that has went into the birdhouses, take pictures and may be you’ll even see a bird or two.
Show your support by purchasing a ” Birdhouse by the Bay” t-shirt for $16.25 as well as a birdhouse that can be purchased for $10. All can be found at Cattail Cove Interiors (1012 Bay St #4, Port Rowan).
As the initiative expands there is hope that it can be comparable to places in the US – that have Birdhouse weekends – with displays, contests, vendors etc. Since this is such a birding area – it might be able to grow into something like this.

The only known Canadian town that has recorded the number of birdhouses they have in their community is Picton. “Bird City” has some 100 birdhouses depicting historic buildings.
