Norfolk County is Ontario’s leading grower of strawberries, and farmers are asking you to eat, drink and buy local. About 30 farmers grow about 400 acres of strawberries in total in Norfolk County. With new ever-bearing varieties, strawberry season continues until the fall frost.
From Strawberry Lager to Strawberry Fest, the people of Norfolk County celebrate their success in strawberries in a variety of ways.
Farms hold open house events and other activities. Meadowlynn Farms hosts an open house in June. Wholesome Pickins usually hosts their Open House Farm Party on July 1. (Call ahead to confirm.)
Wineries in Norfolk County serve special strawberry-wine cocktail tastings. Meanwhile, local restaurants work fresh strawberries onto their menus.
People can buy or pick their own strawberries and just enjoy them with a bowl of ice cream.
