June is here and it’s time to hit the lake!
Norfolk County is well known for its incredible beaches and it is finally time to start splashing around. Over the weekend, we had our first swim of the season. The waves off Port Dover Beach were awesome! The water is still chilly but that didn’t stop us from getting wet. Ok, to be honest, I was only up to my knees while the kids were swimming like dolphins. Have fun exploring what Norfolk County has to offer!
Do you enjoy swimming? Are you up for a challenge? Would you like to support Camp Trillium? Annaliese Carr, our local swimming hero and Josh Reid will be hosting their third annual North Shore Challenge on July 16. This event has multiple distances for everyone from rookie open-water swimmers to seasoned veterans, triathletes and pool swimmers alike. Join in for the 1km, 3.8km or the full 10km race as part of the Global Swim Series.
If this event gets you excited, it is time to start training! Scot from North Shore Athletics welcomes you to train with a group. Various dates coming up, contact him for details. They meet in Port Dover or Turkey Point and help you get ready for the challenge.
If you are not quite ready for the lake yet, get training at the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre in Norfolk County’s Simcoe Recreation Centre. Length swims are offered daily during week days. There are also many special events coming up at the pool including free swimming lessons for adults, kids and families this Saturday, June 10. Check out the schedule and register!
I have been invited to a bicycling tour and would love if you came along for the ride! On Wednesday June 14 at 2:00pm, I will be broadcasting live with Ontario’s South Coast Bicycles and Tours trying their super cool pedal-assist bikes around Norfolk County’s countryside. Tune in to Norfolk’s Tourism Facebook page to learn more about the bike rentals and tours. Let’s see how far we can go and what we can see. It is sure to be an adventure!!
Red Apple Rides officially launched their operations last week in Port Dover. They are ready to offer a wide variety of unique bike tours. The Foodie Tour which starts at 5pm on Thursdays and Saturdays will get you on a super cool ride and let you sample a variety of seasonal and local food and drinks. You will be treated to some of the best local artisan food Dover has to offer at five different stops.
I had the pleasure of being invited for a short private tour last week and had a fantastic time. The bikes are very easy to ride and the guides are friendly and knowledgeable!
GoNorfolk is a community initiative I created earlier this year to get you off the couch and moving around Norfolk County. The June event will take place on Thursday the 15th at 6pm. The location is kept secret until a few days before so I can’t let the cat out of the bag yet but you don’t want to miss this one!! Expect to meet the locals and learn new skills while enjoying an amazing location. More info here about this free, family friendly event!
Get out and explore Norfolk County. I encourage you to post your pictures of being active in Norfolk on social medias using the hashtag #GoNorfolk! Empower others to get moving in Ontario’s Garden.
