What a wonderful time of year to celebrate that special lady in our lives that could be the woman who raised us, the one who has given us the joy of family, or just helps to guide us and mentor us in life. Moms are pretty incredible people and there is no better place to find incredible and unique gifts for those amazing people than in Norfolk County!
More than flowers
Flowers are incredible, but edible cupcake bouquets are even better and will last… minutes, but at least they will taste better than a dozen roses! Local places, like Ritzy Cakes in Waterford, make all sorts of wonderful handmade treats for those moms out there. Gift baskets from Ramblin’ Road Brewery Farm, Cheese of the Month club from the Dover Cheese Shop, gift certificates to local restaurants, beverage tours from Ride the Bine, the list of treats and gifts available goes on and on.
Magic in your backyard
I know those were the gifts my own mom always loved the most. Taking her out for dinner on Mother’s Day was always that special treat she looked forward to the most. It was a night off for her and just a chance to sit back, let someone else cook for a change, and to chat and enjoy the rest of the evening without having to do the dishes! There was something magical about those moments, and it didn’t take a GO Train ride or a fancy restaurant reservation to achieve it. All of that magic was right here in our own backyard!
Plants for pies
Those are the things we tend to lose sight of now-a-days. We get so caught up in the moment that sometimes we forget that the simple things in life can be the best. My sister this year didn’t want any fancy new technology or anything like that for Mother’s Day, she just wanted her boys to buy her a new Elderberry bush to replace the one they had driven over on their quads. As funny as that sounds, that bush meant more to her than any overpriced gift every could. She wants to grow those berries so she can make pies with them like our mom used to. It’s those simple memories and simple moments that often mean the most and allow us to build more memories in the future.
So next year, when it comes to treating your mom on Mother’s Day, make sure you keep it local and treat her to those things she loves close to home and take the time to enjoy them with her, because that is probably what she would like the most!
