On Thursday, March 23rd the Norfolk Arts Centre will hold its popular SoupART Bowls event. Now in its 9th year, SoupART Bowls is a “friend-raising” event that brings together and highlights the creativity of the visual and culinary arts in Norfolk County in support of children and youth programs at the NAC. Central to the success of the event are its community partners: the Norfolk Potters’ Guild and Studio who donates over 250 handcrafted ceramic bowls and the respected Norfolk County restaurants that contribute their original soup recipes.
“People look forward to the SoupART Bowl event every year,” Melissa Stickl, Chair on behalf of Norfolk Arts Centre Advisory Board, said. “I see some of the same faces and families come back each year. It’s fun, easy, creative, and, of course, it is for a good cause – arts education. I am truly amazed at some of the raw talent I see. Even more amazing is to see all the finished bowls laid out on the day of the event for patrons to make a selection. It’s an art exhibit of its own –with every color of the rainbow and shape of bowl imaginable.”
With the purchase of their ticket patrons select an original ceramic bowl made by a member of the Norfolk Potters’ Guild, receive a SoupART Bowls souvenir cookbook featuring recipes from the participating establishments and spend a leisurely evening wandering through the galleries enjoying soups from some of Norfolk County’s finest restaurants. Beverages from Blueberry Hill Estates and The Cider Keg will be available, as will cheese care of event sponsor, Jensen Cheese.
While satisfying their appetite, patrons can have fun casting their vote for “favourite soup” and “friendliest soup station,” viewing the current exhibition “Off Course: Norfolk Secondary Student Visual Art Exhibition,” and “rare” by Elizabeth Barrett-Milner all the while mingling with friends and family. Up the ante by entering your name in a draw for a door prize courtesy of the Potters’ Guild or purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win an amazing prize from a local artist, artisan or business. Food, prizes and great company – this event really has it all!
SoupART runs in two services: Service 1 from 4:30 – 6:00 pm; Service 2 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Tickets are $30 (10% discount for NAC members); tickets are reserved with payment.
